I am a Lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at the University of Nigeria Nsukka. My research areas include Theatre for Development, Acting and Directing, African Drama and Theatre, and Post-Colonial Drama. My current interest is in the place of theatre in migration studies and I am excited about the prospects of research collaborations on this.
I have worked with and consulted for several governmental and non-governmental organizations on the use of culture and performing arts for community and human development. These organizations include UNICEF, DfID, African Cultural Centre, Women’s Aid Collective, Brassland Africa Network, and the Nigerian National Council for Arts and Culture. I am interested in the value of diversity for intercultural integration and have presented papers at several international and local conferences. My domiciliary status as an African living in Africa, membership of multidisciplinary professional bodies like the International Literacy Association, African Theatre Association, Society for Cinema and Media Studies, the International Health Humanities Network and my passion for African culture as part of a vibrant global culture and civilized humanity have positioned me as an informed source of information on African culture and performance.
I am currently; Executive Director of the Nigeria based Development Performance Initiative and African Art Consult. My recent play, Luscinia (2020), is on the connection between early marriage and girl child education within a culture in transition.
