My Profile

I am into folklore studies with primary interest in Yoruba mythology and rituals. My interest in this area can be traced to my undergraduate project on oral literary component of Wole Soyinka's Yoruba myth and ritual-based play: Death and the King's Horseman. My interest in Yoruba mythology and rituals was deepened during my M.A. Literature-in-English studies which culminated in my thesis titled Dramatization of Yoruba Cosmology in Osun Osogbo and Olojo Festivals. This interest was further heightened during my studies for the PhD Literature-in-English at the end of which I wrote and defended my thesis titled: A Poetics of Selected Ritual Festivals in Ile-Ife. I have since written across oral and written faces of African literature focusing on the cultural significance, transformations and adaptations of Yoruba myths and rituals as well as the presences of different Yoruba folkloric forms in written African creative works.
